At the invitation of Mr. Barry Madlener, Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management, and Ms. Steffi Lemke, German Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection, Mr. Li Guoying, Minister of Water Resources, paid an official visit to the Netherlands and Germany from October 20th to 25th. During the visit, he introduced President Xi Jinping’s water governance principles of “prioritizing water conservation, balancing spatial distribution, taking systematic approaches and promoting government-market synergy”, and briefed measures and achievements of promoting high-quality development in water sector. Moreover, Li Guoying proposed specific opinions on strengthening practical water cooperation, and reached multiple cooperation consensuses with water-related ministries of two countries.
During the meeting with Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management, Li Guoying stated that the bilateral water cooperation boasts of a long history, practical depth and fruitful results. China stands ready to reinforce technical exchanges and practical cooperation in the spheres of flood control and disaster reduction, climate change adaptation, embankment safety and harmful pest control, as well as enhance mutual supports in international water governance and major water activities, so as to push forward the deepening and expansion of China-Dutch water cooperation.
During the meetings with German Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection and Minister for Digitalization and Transport, Li Guoying introduced the development of digital twin technology in water sector in China. Both sides conducted in-depth discussions on deepening the cooperation in the fields of flood and drought control, ecological protection and restoration of rivers and lakes, groundwater management, construction and management of water projects, climate change adaptation measures, digital twin technology empowerment, among others.
Besides, the Chinese delegation visited water research institutions and water enterprises, conducted on-site surveys on major water projects, and gained a deep understanding of the latest developments in water engineering design, construction, operation and maintenance technologies in both countries.
