On February 18, Mr. Li Liangsheng, Vice Minister of Water Resources, met Mr. Christensen, Denmark’s Ambassador to China. Both sides conducted in-depth exchanges on gearing up water cooperation between China and Denmark.
Li Liangsheng noted that Ministry of Water Resources of China thoroughly practices President Xi Jinping’s water governance principles of “prioritizing water conservation, balancing spatial distribution, taking systematic approaches and promoting government-market synergy”, so as to tackle the problems in the fields of water disasters, water resources, water ecology and water environment in a coordinated manner, and enhance the guaranteed capacity of the national water security in a continuous manner. Since the signing of Memorandum of Understanding on water cooperation in 2010, China and Denmark have been maintaining close and friendly cooperation in water sector, and achieved fruitful outcomes. These not only contribute to the development of bilateral relations, but also effectively promote China-Europe water cooperation. Ministry of Water Resources of China stands ready to deepen friendly exchanges and cooperation with the Danish side, and strengthen policy dialogues, technical exchanges and practical project cooperation in the fields of common interests including groundwater protection, utilization and management, in order to continuously make water-sector contributions to promoting the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Denmark. Meanwhile, it is fully expected to foster mutual support and cooperation between China and Denmark in international water events, so as to contribute to the early realization of the water-related goals of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development on a global scale.
Christensen expressed that Denmark attaches great importance to the key role of water sector in stepping up green cooperation between Denmark and China. Two sides have accomplished positive and pragmatic cooperation results in groundwater management, China-Europe Water Platform, among others. Moreover, he expressed willingness to further reinforce experience sharing and exchange cooperation with China in water sector.
