Recently, three cases submitted by Ministry of Water Resources(MWR), namely “China-Pakistan Belt and Road Joint Laboratory on Small Hydropower Technology: Collaborative Efforts to Alleviate Poverty in Pakistan”, “Enhancing Rural Water Supply in Lancang-Mekong Countries: The Sweet Spring Project” and “Building a Beautiful Countryside: Collaborative Approaches to Eco-Friendly Sewage Solutions in Yunnan”, were awarded the Best Poverty Reduction Cases at the 5th Global Solicitation on Best Poverty Reduction Practices Campaign. This campaign was jointly organized and evaluated by the International Poverty Reduction Center in China, the World Bank, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the International Fund for Agricultural Development, the United Nations World Food Programme, the Asian Development Bank and the China Internet Information Center.

The China-Pakistan Belt and Road Joint Laboratory for Small Hydropower Technology, implemented by National Research Institute for Rural Electrification of MWR, was established in 2015. Since its establishment, the laboratory has been carrying out joint research, technology transfer, project demonstration, personnel training, standard proposals, data integration and other diverse activities, thus deepening the cooperation between China and Pakistan in the sphere of small hydropower, and ensuring the local residents’ living and production electricity.

Launched in 2020, the Sweet Spring Project undertaken by the China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research, has oriented on the key domains of Lancang-Mekong water resources cooperation and taken “safe water supply in rural areas” as the starting point to build more than 100 rural water supply safety demonstration sites in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and other countries, so as to render safe drinking water for thousands of rural residents.

Led by the International Economic and Technical Cooperation and Exchange Center of Ministry of Water Resources, the eco-friendly sewage solution project was practiced in Qiubei County of Yunnan Province in 2021-2022. Through adopting the water ecological restoration technology of treating rural domestic sewage with unpowered artificial wetlands, the local water environment was significantly upgraded, and eventually it became a model project of water ecological treatment of local water environment.
