Kaleta Hydropower Station
Kaleta Hydropower Station is the third cascade hydropower station on the Konkoure River in Guinea, about 140 km from the capital city of Conakry. As a pivotal energy project with government priority and attracting nationwide attention, the Station is of great significance in alleviating power shortage, improving the well-being of local people, and stepping up the rapid economic and social development of Guinea.
Kaleta Hydropower Station is a dam-toe power station using the river-bed runoff. With three power units, it has an installed capacity of 240 MW and an annual energy output of 946 million kW·h. Its construction was officially kicked off in April 2012 and completed on September 28th, 2015. During its construction, the technical team of Yellow River Engineering Consulting Co., Ltd. (YREC) overcame many technical challenges, aiming at lighting up Guinea, a “Water Tower of West Africa”, which was enveloped in darkness for 58 years. The successful operation of the power station represents the success of China-Africa cooperation, ensures Guinea’s energy security, and drives its economic, technological and cultural integration with its neighboring countries. In addition, it is of great importance in gearing up the peaceful development of West Africa.
Kaleta Hydropower Station, renowned as “Three Gorges Project in Guinea”, is one of YREC’s milestone projects under the Belt & Road Initiative. With its design printed on the largest banknote of Guinea, Kaleta Hydropower Station is now a flagship oversea project of China’s hydropower companies.
