Suapiti Hydropower Station

Suapiti Hydropower Station is situated 6 kilometers upstream of Kaleta Hydropower Station. It has a total storage capacity of 6.317 billion m3, an installed hydro capacity of 45 million KW and an average annual power generation of 2.016 billion kW·h. The completion of the Station greatly improves the regulation and storage capacity of Kaileta Hydropower Station in the downstream and increases the guaranteed output of Kaleta Hydropower Station from 2.6 million KW to 10 million KW, making significant contribution to the energy security of Guinea.

The construction of Suapiti hydropower station was kicked off on April 1, 2016, and all of its four power units were put into operation on March 25, 2021. Currently, it is a multipurpose water project boasting of the highest dam, the biggest storage capacity and the largest installed capacity in West Africa. The operation of the Station fundamentally tackles chronical  power shortage and provides sufficient energy power for the industrial and mining development in Guinea. Moreover, with the construction of the interconnected power grid in West Africa, the clean power generated by the Station can be transmitted to Senegal, Mali, Guinea Bissau and other neighboring countries, thus effectively backing up peace and development in Africa.
