In September 2016, under the authorization of Ministry of Commerce of China, Yellow River Engineering Consulting Co., Ltd signed the Contract for Bangladesh Flood Control Planning Technical Cooperation Programme with Water Development Commission of Ministry of Water Resources of Bangladesh in Dhaka, providing technical assistance to Bangladesh to support its flood disaster prevention and control . The programme was initiated in June 2017, the technical review was completed in July 2019, and the formal handover was convened in November, 2019.
The programme systematically analyses the current situation of flood control in Bangladesh, and puts forward the flood control layout of planned rivers in the forthcoming 20 years. The planned rivers consist of Ganges River, Jamuna River, Padma River and tributaries of Brahmaputra River, including Teesta River, Dharla River and Dudhkumar River. The total length of these planned rivers reaches 823km. In addition, the programme also includes flood early warning and forecasting system, technical exchanges and training, among others.
Eventually, the programme outcome turns out an important guidance for flood control management in Bangladesh for the next 20 years, thus effectively gearing up flood control management of Bangladesh, stepping up China-Bangladesh cooperation and friendship, and rendering a strong technical support for the improvement of local people’s livelihood.
