On September 11th, the 3rd Global Water Security Seminar, themed Implementation of SDG 6-Progress and Monitoring, was convened during the 18th World Water Congress. Mr. Tian Xuebin, Vice Minister of Water Resources, Mr. Loic Fauchon, President of World Water Council, and Mr. Basuki Hadimuljono, Indonesian Minister of Public Works and Housing, attended the opening ceremony and delivered opening remarks.
Tian Xuebin pointed out that water security is a major issue related to the long-term stability of China. It is imperative to enhance the awareness of water crisis, and pursue a high-quality development path of strong guarantee of water security, efficient utilization of water resources, significant improvement of water ecology and effective governance of water environment. The Chinese government attaches great importance to water security and has made progress in the spheres of implementing water-related goals of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and enhancing guarantee capability of water security. Ministry of Water Resources of China will continue to adhere to the new development concept of innovation, coordination, green, openness and sharing on the path of the Chinese-style modernization, and take more powerful and effective actions. Under the guidance of the global development initiative, the global security initiative and the global civilization initiative, China stands ready to work with other countries to step up the implementation of water-related goals, so as to ensure sustainable economic and social development with the sustainable utilization of water resources, and improve the well-being of all humanity with the high-quality development in water sector.
The Global Water Security Seminar has been consecutively held for three years and has become an annual flagship event jointly hosted by Ministry of Water Resources of China and World Water Council. The 3rd Global Water Security Seminar was organized by the International Economic & Technological Cooperation and Exchange Center of Ministry of Water Resources. Nearly 200 experts and representatives from relevant countries and international organizations including WWC, WHO, FAO and OECD, participated in the seminar.
